Nice and strong but slow response

Last time I bought the magacore 'medium' and this time I decided to try out the 'strong' version and the g and c strings have been quite slow in their response. The strings are well played in (3 weeks of 4ish hrs/day) and yet the response on the bottom is slow. I think I'll order another set of the mediums and save these as a back-up set. The sound is beautiful, as usual with larson strings.

Magnacores for My Cello - A Happy Ending

I ordered Larsen Magnacores recently for my cello, after much research. I was previously unaware of Concord Music, but found they had the best price on Magnacores, as well as on many other strings. Since I had not used them before, I called to place my order. The young lady with whom I dealt could not have been more pleasant and helpful. My order arrived at my home in Oklahoma in a couple of days. I was amazed at what I heard when I put them on. Passages that I could seldom get to sound right sounded wonderful time after time; I give full credit to the strings. My cello was responsive as it has never been and the sound was incredibly full and warm. The only problem was the G string; it was extremely responsive as well, but also sounded raucous on many notes, particularly the open G. I assumed that this would correct itself once the string was played in, but it continued to misbehave. I called and emailed various places for ideas and began researching for a replacement G that might work with the other strings; I wasn't going to give up the sound of the A, D and C. I finally paid a visit to a local luthier. When he heard me play, the shop owner said "your cello doesn't like that [G] string". The luthier, Christopher, tried several things, but without success. His final idea was to try replacing my original 40 year old Ebony tailpiece with a Wittner to see if the lighter weight and the fact that the Wittner fine tuners are further from the bridge than the tuners on my original tailpiece might do the trick. Thank the Lord, it did. The open G (only) still sounds slightly grainy under my ear, but when I stood a few feet away and listened to the luthier play, the string sounded as great as the others. The cello now sounds fantastic from top to bottom. Thank you to Christopher, to Larsen and to Concord Music; I'm sure I'll be in touch again and I will be recommending you to my students.
