I love how on my bright instrument this G string gives a certain darkness but still projects. Not crazy overtones like on more dominant strings (see what I did there?) but nice meaty tone at least for my particular violin. Pitch is very stable.

Coming back

I used to use only Obligato strings for a few years, and then started experimenting with others, particularly Eva Gold, and Perpetual. However, the G strings always sounded harsh and "cracked" when trying to play high on the string. So I bought an Obligato G and the old sweet, solid warm sound returned with no cracking. It may just be how it works on my violin, but I think i'll stick with it. Next want to try going back to the Obligato D.

My favorite strings

Lovely, dark and rich, like the best chocolate. I occasionally try other strings, but doing so just reminds me that these are the best -- for me, anyway.
