Melos Cello Rosin

Melos Cello Rosin is a hand-crafted rosin made in Thessaloniki, Greece, from natural pine resin and colophony. Produced in small batches, it provides a stable, responsive grip suited to the cello’s lower strings and wider bow contact.

Available in Dark, Light, and Sticky formulations, Melos cello rosin allows players to adjust bow response based on climate, instrument setup, and playing style. The formulations can also be combined to refine grip and articulation.

Formulations

Dark
Provides strong, reliable grip and a full, focused tone, helping to engage the heavier cello strings. Particularly effective in cooler or drier conditions and widely used for general playing.

Light
Offers a slightly lighter response with reduced resistance, often preferred in warmer conditions or for players seeking a more fluid feel.

Sticky
Provides the strongest level of grip among the Melos cello rosins, with a dense, full tone and immediate string engagement. Particularly useful in colder conditions or when additional traction is needed.

Baroque
Available for players using gut strings or historical setups.

Also available in a smaller Melos Mini Cello Rosin (Dark and Light), often used when combining formulations to adjust grip and response.

Materials and Production

Melos rosin is made from Greek pine-tree resin combined with carefully selected natural ingredients. Each cake is formed entirely by hand, and slight variations in appearance are a natural result of the process.
