This low B string was put on my modern five string bass, along with a full Permanent set. Compared to the other Permanent strings, the low B is sluggish and quite dark in tone. While the tone seems rather full, the volume is severely muted in comparison the the other strings in the set. In crossing from the E string to the low B, a sudden change in bow is required and the string is very slow to respond. Pirastro seems to have a problem with their concept of the low B string. Having tired many different Pirastro low B strings, I can honestly say that I have wasted a good deal of money. This may be the best one so far, but I wish it would vibrate better, faster and have more projection and I would hope for a low C instead of being limited to the B.
